FAQ

Have A Question?

What is endodontics?

Endodontics is a specialized branch of dentistry that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of dental pulp and root canal-related issues.

When is a root canal necessary?

A root canal is necessary when the dental pulp, which contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue inside the tooth, becomes infected or damaged due to decay, trauma, or other factors. It is aimed at saving the natural tooth instead of extracting it.

What are the signs that I might need a root canal?

Signs that you may need a root canal include severe toothache, lingering sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures, pain to chew, swelling or tenderness around the affected tooth, a recurring pimple on the gum, or discoloration of the tooth.

Is a root canal painful?

The tale as old as time! Most people relate the pain of a root canal to the pain of needing one. The discomfort during a root canal procedure is comparable to having a tooth filling. Most patients report feeling relief after the procedure.

How long does a root canal procedure take?

The duration of a root canal procedure depends on various factors such as the complexity of the case and the tooth involved. On average, it can take one appointment of approximately 60 minutes.

What happens after a root canal treatment?

After a root canal, the tooth is typically restored with a permanent filling and dental crown to protect and strengthen it. Proper oral hygiene, including regular brushing, flossing, and dental check-ups, is crucial to maintain the health of the treated tooth.

What is endodontic surgery?

Endodontic surgery, also known as apicoectomy, is a procedure performed when a conventional root canal treatment is insufficient to address an infection or other complications. It involves removing infected tissue at the tip of the tooth root and placing a filling to promote healing.

Is endodontic surgery painful?

Like any surgical procedure, there may be some discomfort after endodontic surgery. However, local anesthesia is administered to ensure the patient’s comfort, and post-operative pain can typically be managed with over-the-counter or prescribed pain medications.

How long does it take to recover from endodontic surgery?

The healing period after endodontic surgery varies depending on the individual and the extent of the procedure. Most patients can resume their normal activities within a day or two, and complete healing typically occurs within a few weeks.

What are the alternatives to endodontic treatment?

The main alternative to endodontic treatment is tooth extraction. However, it is generally recommended to preserve natural teeth whenever possible.
